It was basically flat. It would have been impossible to see or feel under a Golden retriever\u2019s hair!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1500\" src=\"https:\/\/www.drphilzeltzman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/IMG_9839-2000x1500.jpg\" alt=\"A mast cell tumor\" class=\"wp-image-1556\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.drphilzeltzman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/IMG_9839-2000x1500.jpg 2000w, https:\/\/www.drphilzeltzman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/IMG_9839-1100x825.jpg 1100w, https:\/\/www.drphilzeltzman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/IMG_9839-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.drphilzeltzman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/IMG_9839-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.drphilzeltzman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/IMG_9839-2048x1536.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2000px) 100vw, 2000px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>How many pet owners do you think would\nhave requested surgery to remove it?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Well, Emmie\u2019s owner sure did!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because of the behavior of a mast cell\ntumor, and without knowing how aggressive it was (ie without knowing\nit\u2019s \u201cgrade\u201d), the surgery had to be aggressive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With a special pen, a 3 cm in diameter\ncircle (a bit over 1 inch) was drawn around the mass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1500\" src=\"https:\/\/www.drphilzeltzman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/IMG_9841-2000x1500.jpg\" alt=\"The area needing to be removed\" class=\"wp-image-1557\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.drphilzeltzman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/IMG_9841-2000x1500.jpg 2000w, https:\/\/www.drphilzeltzman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/IMG_9841-1100x825.jpg 1100w, https:\/\/www.drphilzeltzman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/IMG_9841-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.drphilzeltzman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/IMG_9841-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.drphilzeltzman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/IMG_9841-2048x1536.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2000px) 100vw, 2000px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>However, we cannot remove a circular area of the skin (the scar would be tight and ugly). We can however remove an oval area. So the shape was changed to this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1500\" src=\"https:\/\/www.drphilzeltzman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/IMG_9842-2000x1500.jpg\" alt=\"The incision lines\" class=\"wp-image-1558\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.drphilzeltzman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/IMG_9842-2000x1500.jpg 2000w, https:\/\/www.drphilzeltzman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/IMG_9842-1100x825.jpg 1100w, https:\/\/www.drphilzeltzman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/IMG_9842-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.drphilzeltzman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/IMG_9842-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.drphilzeltzman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/IMG_9842-2048x1536.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2000px) 100vw, 2000px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Then the mass was removed along those\npurple lines (OK, OK, for the purists, this is a fusiform shape, not\noval).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One week later, the biopsy came back.
